Tiddens and his team of specialists bring next-level modular design expertise to RISE’s manufacturing process
(MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA) RISE Modular announced that modular industry veteran and design professional Troy Tiddens has joined the company’s leadership team as vice president of design and modular project management. Tiddens brings more than 20 years of experience working in modular manufacturing, collaborating with clients and design professionals to bridge the gap between traditional construction practices and offsite manufacturing needs. Tiddens is also a well-known and respected modular industry advocate and educator.
“There aren’t many other individuals who have the level of professional experience in offsite construction and design expertise in volumetric modular manufacturing as Troy Tiddens,” said David Walock, chief operating officer of RISE Modular. “We are thrilled that our team and our clients’ projects will benefit from the lessons he’s learned throughout his career.”
Tiddens began working in modular immediately after college when he became a drafter/designer at Guerdon Enterprises in Boise, Idaho, a leading manufacturer of large-scale modular construction projects. Tiddens rose through the ranks at the modular manufacturer, ending his career there in 2018 as vice president of design and project management. He left the company to broaden his impact on the industry, educating other design professionals, general contractors, clients, etc. about commercial modular’s benefits and how to adapt to the manufacturing process. Tiddens started a modular division at Neudesign Architecture (now EV Studio) in Meridian, Idaho, and began consulting and speaking about modular throughout the US.
“To truly experience all the benefits of modular — faster construction timelines, higher quality, cost savings — you cannot approach it like traditional construction,” said Tiddens. “In order to maximize the success of your modular project, you must integrate a well-coordinated plan and consistent deliverables that incorporate the scope, sequencing and unique assembly of modular design. RISE Modular is proving high-performance, customized design can be achieved with a volumetric modular delivery. I’m excited to work with their talented team to learn, grow and refine RISE’s preconstruction and manufacturing processes to optimize the best of what volumetric modular can provide our multi-family and hospitality clients.”
Tiddens brings a team of commercial modular design professionals with him to RISE Modular as well, a team he has been working with since his time at Guerdon. Jake Boden joins RISE Modular as their director of design integration, and JJ Bowling and Austin Cruz as model integration specialists.
“It isn’t often one experiences the level of trust and support that our team has developed in our years of working together,” said Tiddens. “The workplace culture and community we have is one of the coolest things I have experienced. I may provide the leadership and direction, but they bring it to fruition. I think the camaraderie we have will be just as meaningful to RISE as our modular experience. I cannot say enough about the power and professionalism of Jake, JJ and Austin.”
Tiddens and his team join RISE as the company has three of its own-developed projects in various stages of construction — the 82-unit Dylan Apartments in St. Michael, the 202-unit Pentagon Village Apartments in Edina, Minn., and the 127-unit Glenwood Apartments in Minneapolis — with more in the pipeline. Since the company began in 2019, it has completed three projects in the metro area including the highly complex, award-winning, 192-unit Alvera Apartments in St. Paul in which RISE was the module supplier working with Ackerberg Group, Northland Real Estate Group and Opus Group. Tiddens will begin working with RISE’s established manufacturing team to further refine its manufacturing process, increase its production for more projects per year and position RISE for future expansion.
“We’re doing something special here at RISE and I think the modular industry and the commercial real estate market are beginning to realize it,” said Walock. “Troy and his team’s addition demonstrates both the boldness of our vision and our commitment to the continued advancement of the entire modular industry.”
